On Wednesday, India's Enforcement Directorate (ED) raided the residences of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and several others in connection with a money-laundering investigation. This action occurred shortly after the Kerala High Court dismissed a petition aimed at halting the inquiry. The case emerged in 2023, involving allegations that Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL) made illicit payments to Exalogic Solutions, a firm owned by Vijayan's daughter, T. Veena. In addition to the raids, the ED questioned Veena and searched the home of her husband, P.A. Mohammed Riyas, a legislator from Beypore. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office is also involved in the case, which has led to the suspension of five police officers linked to Vijayan. The current Congress-led government is scrutinizing police actions during protests against Vijayan. Meanwhile, tensions have risen, with CPI(M) members accusing the Congress of colluding with the BJP, a claim refuted by Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. The situation escalated when CPI(M) supporters attacked an ED vehicle outside Vijayan's home during the raids.
