Dharamshala, located in Himachal Pradesh, India, is gearing up for a significant influx of tourists with the hosting of four Indian Premier League (IPL) matches at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) stadium. The Punjab Kings will play three matches against Delhi Capitals on May 11, Mumbai Indians on May 14, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 17. The HPCA stadium is the adopted home ground for the Punjab Kings, who have already arrived in Dharamshala. Hotel occupancy, currently at around 30%, is expected to rise to over 45% during match days, with weekends potentially exceeding 60% occupancy. Ashwani Bamba, president of the Dharamshala Hotel Association, noted that higher occupancy rates will benefit not only hotels but also local businesses, including tour and travel services. Varun Thakur, president of the All Himachal Taxi Association, emphasized that the IPL matches will attract tourists from neighboring states, further boosting the local economy. The Qualifier 1 match on May 26 is anticipated to be particularly significant in drawing cricket enthusiasts to the area.
