The IDF Home Front Command announced that it will take over 30 years to ensure all Israelis have access to safe rooms, a critical need given the ongoing threat from Iran's ballistic missiles. Currently, only 67% of the population is equipped with these shelters, and the IDF anticipates a slow growth rate of 1% per year for new safe spaces. Even in the most ambitious scenarios, an increase to 3% per year would still leave significant portions of the country exposed to aerial attacks for at least 11 years. The military has no plans to achieve full nationwide protection in the near term, with no large-scale emergency rebuilding efforts underway. The Home Front Command expressed that the risks posed by Iranian attacks, which have resulted in over 50 Israeli fatalities and extensive property damage, are viewed as less burdensome than the challenges of rapidly expanding safe room infrastructure, which would require extensive temporary displacements and demolitions.
