The impeachment trial has gained traction following a House vote that found probable cause for charges against Duterte, including culpable violations of the Constitution and graft involving substantial misappropriated funds. With Duterte being a prominent political figure and a contender for the presidency in the upcoming 2028 elections, the trial is anticipated to attract considerable public interest. Prosecution panel spokeswoman Renee Co also advocated for increased political participation through livestreaming the trial, suggesting that many individuals would engage in this practice from their homes and classrooms. The charges against Duterte encompass serious allegations, including bribery and the accumulation of unexplained wealth during her time in office, further underscoring the trial's significance in Philippine politics.
