Gyanveer Singh, a 2011 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, has recently assumed the role of Regional Passport Officer (RPO) in Lucknow. His main objective is to minimize the travel burden on applicants, many of whom come from distant parts of Uttar Pradesh. Singh emphasizes the importance of digital communication, stating that most passport-related issues can now be resolved through email, WhatsApp, and other online platforms. He highlights the efficiency of India's passport system, noting that tatkal applicants can often secure appointments the next day, in contrast to longer wait times in some European countries. The Lucknow Passport Office has seen significant activity this year, processing approximately 391,577 applications and issuing 386,223 passports by the end of May. To improve public access, Singh has initiated outreach camps and enhanced grievance redressal mechanisms through various digital channels.
