Chennai is set to embark on a significant infrastructure project with a ₹310 crore (approximately $37 million USD) flyover and road expansion plan on Sardar Patel Road, one of the city's busiest routes. This road is essential for daily commuters, especially IT professionals, with lakhs of vehicles traversing it daily. The project will involve widening the road to add two new traffic lanes, which is expected to enhance traffic flow significantly. Additionally, pedestrian infrastructure will be improved, including better-designed sidewalks to ensure safer movement for pedestrians. To address environmental concerns, a noise barrier wall will be erected near the cancer treatment center close to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras, aiming to reduce noise pollution in the area. The project will be executed in two phases, with preliminary activities already underway. In a related initiative, authorities are also proposing a 3-kilometre-long flyover at the Guru Nanak College Junction, connecting Guindy to Velachery, to further alleviate congestion. This junction sees nearly 7 lakh commuters daily, and the combined efforts of these projects are expected to significantly improve traffic conditions in this densely populated urban area.
