On Friday, Suvendu Adhikari (leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly and a prominent BJP figure) alleged that a BJP worker, Bina Das, was threatened by supporters of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) at her home in South Kolkata. Adhikari claimed that a group of individuals harassed Das for her door-to-door campaigning efforts for the BJP, describing the incident as an attempt to intimidate women party workers. He linked this aggression to the high voter turnout of nearly 93% in the first phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, suggesting that the TMC is fearful of losing power. Adhikari has filed a complaint with the Kalighat police station and urged the Election Commission of India to take immediate action against the aggressors. He emphasized that if local authorities fail to respond, the BJP will not remain passive. The Bhabanipur constituency, where Adhikari is contesting, will vote in the second phase on April 29, with results announced on May 4.
