During the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed that India has signed a BrahMos missile deal with Vietnam, although it has not been publicly disclosed. He also indicated that the agreement with Indonesia is nearing completion. The Philippines was the first international buyer of the BrahMos system, securing a contract worth nearly USD 375 million in 2022. Singh emphasized India's commitment to strengthening defense ties with ASEAN nations, which include countries like Vietnam and Indonesia, particularly in light of shared maritime claims with China in the South China Sea. He highlighted the need for resilient supply chains and trusted partnerships in defense, stating that nations must adapt to the evolving global security landscape marked by geopolitical uncertainties. Singh noted that India has undertaken significant reforms in its defense sector, promoting private sector involvement and enhancing indigenous manufacturing capabilities. He reiterated that India aims to foster inclusive partnerships that enhance collective security in the region.
