The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has named Shreyas Iyer as the captain of the Indian men's T20 team for the upcoming 2026 Asian Games, set to take place in Japan from September 24 to October 3. Tilak Varma will serve as the vice-captain. The squad features a mix of experienced players and young talent, including teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who will compete for a top-order position alongside established batsmen like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan. The middle order will comprise Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube, while the bowling attack includes spinners Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi, along with pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana. Despite being rested for T20I matches in Ireland and England, Bumrah's inclusion underscores his importance to the team's strategy. The tournament will feature 10 participating teams, including Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, competing for the gold medal in a T20 format.
