As New Delhi experiences a severe heatwave with temperatures reaching 43°C, the Delhi Traffic Police have implemented an innovative initiative to protect their personnel. They are introducing AC helmets and portable fans to help officers stay cool while managing traffic in the sweltering conditions. Assistant Sub-Inspector Veer Singh highlighted the helmets as a significant improvement, noting they can maintain comfort for 4-5 hours depending on battery charge. Additionally, mobile vans are being utilized to provide essential hydration and nutrition for officers, particularly those overseeing VIP movements. This initiative comes amid Red and Orange alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department, indicating severe and potentially life-threatening temperatures across multiple states. Health experts, including Dr. Randeep Guleria, have cautioned that prolonged exposure to such extreme heat can result in serious health risks, including heat stroke. The Delhi Traffic Police's proactive measures serve as a vital model for ensuring the safety of frontline workers during this ongoing heat crisis in North India.
