A German family has been awarded ₹1.14 lakh (approximately $1,200) in compensation after a court ruled that their vacation experience was significantly impaired due to difficulties securing poolside loungers at a resort on the Greek island of Kos. The family, who spent over ₹8.4 lakh (around €7,186) for an 11-day holiday in August 2024, faced a daily struggle for seating, described by the father as a 'deckchair sprint'. Despite temperatures reaching 95 degrees Fahrenheit, they found it nearly impossible to access loungers, often waking up at 6 am to reserve spots, only to find them already claimed with towels. The Hanover District Court concluded that the resort had failed to provide adequate seating as promised, labeling the vacation as 'defective'. The ruling highlighted that children should have equal rights to facilities, affirming that the hotel and tour operator share responsibility for ensuring a reasonable number of loungers for guests.
