Nepal president promulgates Constitutional Council Ordinance

Kathmandu, May 5 (PTI) Nepal’s President Ramchandra Paudel on Tuesday promulgated the constitutional council ordinance, which paves the way for the government to appoint key positions in constitutional bodies. The Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Powers and Procedure) Ordinance, 2026, was previously sent back to the government on Sunday for review. The government resubmitted it for approval on Monday, and the president promulgated it on Tuesday. The six-member Constitutional Council comprises the Prime Minister as chair, along with the Chief Justice, Speaker, National Assembly Chair, Leader of the Opposition in the House of Representatives and Deputy Speaker. The promulgation of the ordinance will pave way for the government to appoint key positions in the constitutional bodies including a new Chief Justice, which remained vacant for some time.
