In a decisive electoral outcome, the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) secured 17 out of 19 seats in the Aizawl Municipal Corporation (AMC) elections, significantly increasing their presence from just six seats in the previous election held in 2021. The counting took place at the Aizawl deputy commissioner’s office, with results announced by the Mizoram State Election Commission. The main opposition party, the Mizo National Front (MNF), which had previously won 11 seats, managed to capture only one ward this time, while the Congress party also secured just one seat. Notably, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to win any seats despite contesting 11. The AMC, established in 2010 under the Mizoram Municipalities Act, 2007, comprises 19 wards, six of which are reserved for women, all of which were won by the ZPM. The elections, held on April 21, saw a voter turnout of 62.77% from a total of 239,000 registered voters.
