In a decisive electoral outcome, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP), under the leadership of Pradyot Kishore Debbarma, won 24 out of 28 seats in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council elections held on Friday. Although TMP and BJP are allies in the state government, their relationship has soured, with Debbarma criticizing the BJP leadership for their lack of genuine support for indigenous issues. He highlighted that the TMP's victory is not merely about political power but is fundamentally about securing constitutional rights related to land, identity, education, and political representation for indigenous people. Debbarma also mentioned receiving outreach from various political figures, including those from the BJP, but chose not to disclose specific details of those discussions.
