On Sunday, Air India unveiled its first retrofitted Boeing 787 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in its $400 million modernization program aimed at upgrading its fleet of 26 Boeing 787s. The aircraft has transitioned from a two-class to a three-class configuration, enhancing passenger comfort and experience. The retrofit process took 12,825 man-hours over 45 days and involved extensive interior upgrades, including the installation of new seats and an inflight entertainment system. The Business Class now boasts 20 luxurious private suites with features such as sliding doors, direct aisle access, and 79-inch fully flat beds. Premium Economy Class offers 25 seats with enhanced privacy and modern amenities, while Economy Class includes 205 seats with ergonomic designs. Air India aims to complete the retrofit program by 2027, significantly improving the onboard experience for over 300 weekly flights to destinations in the United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia. Following the Boeing 787 upgrades, the airline plans to retrofit 13 Boeing 777-300ER aircraft.
