G. Deepak, a dedicated social worker from Belthangady in Karnataka, has been selected for the prestigious Mangaluru Press Club Annual Award for 2025-26. The award, which includes a citation and a monetary prize of ₹10,001 (approximately $120 USD), will be presented on May 24, 2026, during Press Club Day in Mangaluru. Deepak, who works as a bus driver and runs a small business, has significantly contributed to his community despite his modest income. He founded the Rajakesari Service Trust in 2012, which has grown to encompass over 400 members, primarily daily-wage workers. The trust has successfully completed more than 600 service projects, including providing free houses to 34 homeless families, distributing 21 sewing machines for self-employment, and giving 38 wheelchairs to those in need. Deepak's commitment to social work began when he helped save a four-year-old child with a heart condition by raising funds with the help of friends.
