The Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) has taken action against the contractor responsible for the Wazirabad stadium project, proposing a penalty of ₹8.85 crore due to significant delays in construction. The project, which has an estimated total cost of ₹88.50 crore, was expected to be completed by July 16, 2026, but as of now, only 20% of the work has been finished. The MCG issued a show-cause notice to the contractor after a recent inspection revealed that the pace of construction was highly unsatisfactory, with insufficient manpower and machinery deployed at the site, violating tender conditions. The contractor has been given a seven-day window to respond to the notice, after which MCG may recover damages if the response is deemed unsatisfactory. Following the notice, there has been a noticeable increase in construction activity at the site. The Wazirabad sports complex is anticipated to be a significant sports infrastructure facility in Gurugram, providing various sporting amenities and training facilities. MCG officials are closely monitoring the project to ensure it meets its deadlines.
