On April 29, 2023, the legacy of General John Glover, a significant yet often overlooked figure of the American Revolutionary War, will be honored at the Salem Armory Regional Visitor Center in Salem, Massachusetts. This event, part of a lecture series by Essex Heritage and Salem Maritime National Historical Park, coincides with a fundraising campaign aimed at preserving Glover's historic farmhouse in Swampscott, which is at risk of demolition due to a new housing development. The campaign seeks to raise $1 million of the estimated $2 million needed for full restoration by July. The evening will feature a performance by the 18th-century music ensemble Scurvy Fellows Indeed, along with presentations by historians who will delve into Glover's life and contributions. Notably, developers have pledged $250,000 to aid in the renovation efforts, highlighting the community's commitment to preserving this piece of history. As stated by Annie Harris, CEO of Essex Heritage, this program aims to bring Glover the recognition he deserves, connecting the public to their coastal heritage.
