Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have acted quickly to address an injury crisis by signing fast bowler Akash Madhwal as a replacement for Ayush Mhatre, who has been sidelined for the entire season due to a hamstring injury. Mhatre, the captain of India's U19 World Cup-winning team, had made a strong start to the season with two fifties in six matches before his injury occurred during a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Madhwal, who began his career as a net bowler for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2019, gained recognition with the Mumbai Indians after a strong performance in the nets. In the 2023 IPL season, he debuted for the Mumbai Indians, taking 14 wickets in eight matches, including a standout five-wicket haul against Lucknow Super Giants. However, his subsequent stint with Rajasthan Royals saw limited play, and he was released after just four matches. Joining CSK for INR 30 lakh (approximately $36,000 USD), Madhwal's addition is crucial for bolstering CSK's pace attack, which has already seen injuries to Khaleel Ahmed and Spencer Johnson this season.
