The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has officially launched a player contract system designed to provide financial stability and structure for its domestic players. Announced during an Apex Council meeting in January, the MCA is the first cricket association to implement such a system. The contracts are categorized into three grades: Grade A players will earn between ₹12 lakh to ₹20 lakh per annum, Grade B players will receive between ₹8 lakh to ₹12 lakh, and Grade C players will earn ₹8 lakh. To qualify, players must meet specific performance and fitness benchmarks and cannot have represented the Indian national team or been picked by an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise in the past two seasons. The MCA hopes this initiative will foster a professional environment and retain emerging talent in Mumbai cricket, enhancing the overall cricketing ecosystem.
