Israel has announced the killing of Mohammed Odeh, the newly appointed commander of Hamas’ military wing, in a strike conducted in northern Gaza. This operation occurred just days after the death of Odeh's predecessor, Izz al-Din al-Haddad. According to a joint statement from the Israeli military and security agency, Odeh had been monitored for several months and was involved in planning the October 7, 2023 attack against Israel. The statement emphasized that Odeh's death represents a significant setback for Hamas' military capabilities, particularly in its efforts to recover from recent losses. Odeh was a key member of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades' military council and served as the head of intelligence for Hamas. Following his death, Basem Naim, a member of Hamas' political bureau, confirmed the news on social media, calling Odeh a 'heroic martyr.' His family also mourned him, noting that five relatives were killed in the same operation. Israel has previously targeted and eliminated several high-ranking Hamas officials, indicating a continued focus on dismantling the group's leadership.
