Kolathur, a constituency in northern Chennai, has become a focal point in the upcoming elections as voters prepare to cast their votes on April 23. This election serves as a referendum on Chief Minister M K Stalin's leadership, who has represented Kolathur since 2011. Over the years, he has significantly improved the area through various development projects, including new markets and upgraded healthcare facilities. The DMK party is confident of securing a victory, with past election margins increasing from 2,700 votes in 2011 to 70,384 in 2021. However, the principal opposition, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), led by candidate Santhanakrishnan, is highlighting local issues such as poor road conditions and water logging to sway voters. AIADMK's general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has criticized Stalin for promoting dynastic politics and corruption. Despite these challenges, DMK's grassroots mobilization efforts aim to enhance voter turnout and victory margins, emphasizing that the scale of the win is as crucial as the win itself.
