Ahead of the monsoon season, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called for immediate action to enhance flood preparedness in the state. During a high-level review meeting, he directed Deputy Commissioners to ensure the completion of flood protection works, emphasizing that they would be held personally accountable for any lapses. Mann stressed the urgent need for desilting drains and addressing vulnerable points to prevent flooding. He highlighted the importance of a coordinated master plan with irrigation engineers for regular maintenance of drains and rivers. The Chief Minister also noted the ongoing cleaning of the Buddha Nullah, which has been improved up to the starting point of Ludhiana city, and urged for the swift operationalization of the compressed biogas plant at Hebowal. Additionally, he called for the strengthening of weak embankments along the Sutlej River and the prompt completion of sewage treatment projects to mitigate flood risks.
