In response to the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) proposal for a dedicated parking facility for corporators of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the NGO Conservation Action Trust has written to Municipal Commissioner Ashwini Bhide, advocating for corporators to utilize public transport options like the Mumbai metro and BEST buses instead. This proposal comes after 20 corporators faced penalties for illegal parking outside the civic headquarters. The citizens’ group also criticized the BMC's plan to build a Gymkhana for Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officials on salt-pan land in Wadala, arguing that such construction would violate coastal regulation zone (CRZ) guidelines. The Leader of the House, Ganesh Khankar, has suggested constructing a new corporation hall at Azad Maidan, addressing the current hall's inadequate space for the growing number of corporators, which has increased from 64 in 1893 to 237 today. The previous proposal to transform the existing facility into a town hall was halted to ensure better utilization of the space.
