WeRide, a leading autonomous driving company based in Guangzhou, China, has expanded its partnership with Lenovo, a major consumer electronics firm based in Beijing, to deploy 200,000 autonomous vehicles globally over the next five years. This ambitious initiative aims to accelerate the commercialization of autonomous driving technologies. Starting in 2026, the two companies will work together to roll out these vehicles, including robotaxis, as part of a broader strategy to enhance the industry's scalability and cost efficiency. WeRide, which went public in 2024 in New York and later in Hong Kong, has secured autonomous driving permits in eight markets, such as the United States and France. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony at Auto China 2026, highlighting the growing competition in the autonomous driving sector. By 2035, robotaxis are projected to represent a significant portion of shared passenger vehicles in China, positioning the country to dominate the global robotaxi market.
