Microsoft is enhancing Windows 11 by reintroducing much-requested customization features for the taskbar and Start menu, addressing user dissatisfaction since its launch in 2021. Users can now reposition the taskbar to the top or sides of the screen, allowing for better use of vertical space, particularly beneficial for developers. In a blog post, Diego Baca from Microsoft stated, "Start and taskbar are some of the most visible and frequently used experiences in Windows, so we are focused on improving their quality and giving you more flexibility to personalize them to meet your needs."

Additionally, users can adjust icon alignment and make the taskbar smaller for smaller screens. The Start menu will see improvements, including the ability to hide sections like Recommended, now renamed to Recent, and the option to choose between Small or Large sizes. These changes aim to streamline the user interface and enhance organization. The updates are currently available to users in the Windows Insider Preview track and will be rolled out more broadly in the coming weeks.
