Modella Capital has announced its acquisition of Flying Tiger Copenhagen, a popular Danish retailer known for its low-cost, diverse product range. This takeover is part of Modella's broader strategy to strengthen its footprint in the UK retail sector, with plans to open over 700 new franchise stores by 2030. Flying Tiger, which operates more than 1,100 shops across 44 countries, has been under the control of its lenders and management after undergoing a restructuring last year. Modella, which did not disclose the acquisition price, aims to provide the necessary stability and capital to support Flying Tiger's growth plans. The firm has gained prominence in the British retail landscape through previous acquisitions, including WH Smith’s high street chain, now known as TG Jones, and Claire’s Accessories. However, Modella is also navigating challenges, as it seeks creditor approval for restructuring plans that may involve closing up to 150 shops. Joseph Price, Modella's managing director, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, highlighting the potential for future growth and collaboration with Flying Tiger's management team.
