During a recent review meeting, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the strategic importance of GIFT City, located in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, as a vital hub for India's growth and integration into global financial markets. GIFT City, India's first operational smart city and International Financial Services Centre (IFSC), has seen impressive progress, with over 1,150 entities operating across various sectors, including banking, fintech, and insurance. Banking assets at GIFT City have exceeded $110 billion, while capital commitments for fund management activities have surpassed $32 billion. Sitharaman emphasized the need for continued collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen GIFT City's role in India's development and its aspirations for becoming a developed nation by 2047. The meeting also addressed key areas for expansion, such as infrastructure development, global connectivity, and attracting talent. P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, underscored the importance of creating world-class infrastructure and bringing in skilled professionals to realize the Prime Minister's vision for GIFT City.
