The Uttar Pradesh Government Railway Police (GRP) is set to enhance rail security by procuring six surveillance drones, with one assigned to each division. This initiative aims to improve monitoring of sensitive railway tracks, particularly in areas prone to sabotage and stone-pelting incidents. Director General of Railway Police Prakash D confirmed that the procurement process is advanced, with two drones already acquired ahead of the 2025 Mahakumbh, a significant religious event expected to attract large crowds. The drones will facilitate real-time surveillance of isolated track sections and yards, enabling quicker responses to suspicious activities and potential threats to rail infrastructure. This move builds on previous security measures taken during the Mahakumbh preparations, highlighting the need for technology-led monitoring. Additionally, the GRP is adopting a stricter approach to enforce laws against offences like stone-pelting, aiming for swift convictions to deter such actions. The drones will be deployed in phases, prioritizing areas with a history of security incidents, reinforcing the GRP's commitment to safeguarding Uttar Pradesh's railway network.
