Kiana Gallagher, originally from Prince George, British Columbia, is graduating from the University of Victoria (UVic) with a double major in physics and computer science. Her journey at UVic began on move-in day, where she was captivated by the campus's beauty and the friendliness of its community. Gallagher credits her experience in CSC 110: Fundamentals of Programming with changing her academic trajectory, leading her to embrace computer science. Beyond academics, she gained valuable research experience and participated in the Women in STEM mentorship program. Looking ahead, Gallagher will pursue a master's degree in medical biophysics at the University of Toronto, a field that merges her interests in medicine, physics, and computer science. She encourages prospective students to explore opportunities beyond UVic, sharing her own experiences of receiving a fellowship from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine and conducting research at Stanford. Gallagher describes her time at UVic as empowering, emphasizing the supportive environment and the importance of seizing opportunities.
