As the second phase of the West Bengal assembly elections takes place, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has raised serious allegations against the Trinamool Congress (TMC). BJP's West Bengal co-incharge, Amit Malviya, accused the TMC of blocking the 'lotus' symbol at several polling booths in the Falta seat of Diamond Harbour, effectively preventing voters from exercising their choice. The BJP has called for an immediate repoll in all affected booths. Malviya claimed that this tactic was used previously to aid Mamata Banerjee's nephew, Abhishek Banerjee, in winning the Lok Sabha election from the same seat. In response to these allegations, the West Bengal Election Commissioner stated that reports of tampering with Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) will be thoroughly investigated, and if the claims are substantiated, repolling will be conducted. The Falta assembly seat features a contest between TMC's Jahangir Khan and BJP's Debangshu Panda, along with candidates from the Left Front and Congress.
