External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated an electronic scoreboard at Sabina Park, a historic cricket venue in Kingston, Jamaica, on May 4, 2026. This gift from India symbolizes the enduring friendship and cultural ties between the two nations. During the dedication ceremony, Jaishankar stated, “The India-Jamaica story is written in runs, written in respect, written in friendship,” highlighting the significance of the scoreboard in counting future innings of collaboration. He also acknowledged the absence of Jamaican cricket legend Chris Gayle. In addition to the ceremony, Jaishankar engaged with the Indian diaspora in Jamaica, discussing India's advancements in various sectors and the contributions of the Indian community. He visited Old Harbour, where the first Indians arrived in Jamaica over 180 years ago, and expressed gratitude to Jamaican ministers for their support. Jaishankar's itinerary includes visits to Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago, emphasizing the historical connection with Girmitiya communities, descendants of Indian indentured laborers.
