The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has commenced repair work on the hazardous 10.5-km stretch of Ghodbunder Road, which has seen 24 fatalities last year, primarily involving bikers. This stretch, running from Kapurbawdi to Gaimukh, was recently transferred to the TMC from the Public Works Department. TMC chief Saurabh Rao announced that all roads within TMC jurisdiction will be prioritized for repairs. A budget of ₹2 crore has been allocated to concretize the flyovers, addressing potholes and uneven surfaces that contribute to accidents. Sanjay Kadam, the executive engineer, stated that the repairs are expected to be completed by June 5 and that 95% of the road is already concretized. Additionally, Thane traffic police are prepared for the monsoon season, equipped with materials to address sudden road issues. However, civic activists express skepticism about the effectiveness of repairs, urging the use of high-quality materials and a third-party audit to ensure safety and prevent further loss of life due to poor road conditions.
