A Bengaluru-based IT employee is under investigation for misusing a corporate credit card, diverting ₹27,01,139 (approximately $32,500 USD) for unauthorized expenses over four months from October 2023 to January 2024. Initially provided a credit card with a ₹2 lakh limit for official expenses, discrepancies were revealed during an internal review. The employee admitted to the misuse but claimed he was coerced by unidentified individuals from China and Pakistan. Despite promising to repay the amount in installments, he failed to do so and escalated the situation by sending obscene images and making suicide threats to his manager on February 9, 2024. Following these alarming communications, the company filed a complaint with the police, leading to a registered First Information Report (FIR) by the Varthur Police Station in Bengaluru. The investigation is ongoing as authorities examine the financial transactions and the employee's claims of coercion.
