Shreyas Iyer has officially taken over as India's T20I captain, succeeding Suryakumar Yadav, who has been dropped from the squad ahead of the upcoming series in Ireland and England. The selection committee has also included 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, marking his first call-up to the national team. This decision comes as India prepares for the T20 World Cup in 2028 and the Los Angeles Olympics. Yadav's recent form has raised concerns, particularly after a lackluster performance in the 2026 T20 World Cup and IPL 2026, where he struggled to make significant contributions. In contrast, Iyer, who has not played a T20I since December 2023, has strong captaincy credentials, having led Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL title in 2024. The squad for the series also sees the inclusion of Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi, and Prince Yadav, while Rinku Singh and Kuldeep Yadav have been left out. India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28, followed by five matches in England from July 1 to 11.
