The Maharashtra Cabinet has officially approved the Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar Farmer Debt Relief Scheme, which aims to provide significant financial relief to farmers by waiving loans up to ₹2 lakh. This initiative, chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, will benefit farmers regardless of landholding size and includes three main components: Debt Relief, One-Time Settlement (OTS), and Incentive Benefits. Farmers with loans below ₹2 lakh will be completely debt-free upon waiver, while those with higher debts must repay the excess by March 31, 2027. Additionally, timely repayments can earn farmers up to ₹50,000 in incentives. The scheme excludes political office-bearers and high-income earners, ensuring that support is directed to those most in need. A high-level committee will oversee its implementation, coordinating with various banks to facilitate the process. The scheme is expected to alleviate the financial strain on farmers across Maharashtra.
