The Ontario government has committed $2 million to the City of Thunder Bay for the construction of the Tbaytel Multiplex, a 120,000-square-foot indoor turf facility designed to enhance local sports and community engagement. Mayor Ken Boshcoff highlighted that this facility will not only support athletic activities but also strengthen the community and attract tourism. The multiplex will feature FIFA-standard turf, automatic field dividers, and amenities such as 500 spectator seats, eight changerooms, and a multi-purpose room. Ontario's Minister of Northern Economic Development, George Pirie, stated that modern recreational facilities are vital for building healthy communities. The project is expected to create good-paying jobs and provide a venue for various sporting events. Construction is progressing well, with a tentative opening date set for early 2024.
