Demolition work has started on the Revolution Square strip mall located on Stony Plain Road, marking a significant transition for the area. The structure, which consisted of two buildings connected by a breezeway, was closed in 2024 following a flood that caused extensive damage to its electrical and HVAC systems. Todd Janes, the executive director of the Stony Plain Road Business Association, expressed sadness over the mall's closure, as it had been a central hub for local businesses and community gatherings. He mentioned that a company purchased the property several months ago, sparking anticipation for new developments. Janes highlighted that the upcoming construction will focus on transit-oriented residential and business spaces, representing a hopeful renewal for the community. He noted that local businesses have remained resilient despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing construction projects, such as the West Valley LRT. This new phase aims to revitalize Stony Plain Road and Jasper Place, fostering a vibrant environment for both residents and businesses.
