On Tuesday, the Indian Ministry of Defence signed contracts totaling ₹975 crore (approximately $117 million USD) for the procurement of TRAWL Assembly for T-72 and T-90 tanks. The contracts were formalized in New Delhi, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh. Developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the TRAWL Assembly is essential for enhancing the Indian Army's minefield breaching capabilities, allowing for the creation of Vehicle Safe Lanes through minefields with anti-tank mines that have proximity magnetic fuses. This procurement is a significant step towards modernizing India's defence infrastructure and promoting indigenous industries under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. Furthermore, the project is expected to generate substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities, particularly by encouraging the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME) sector through component manufacturing.
