The Northport-East Northport Union Free School District in New York has appointed Dr. Matthew Linger as its new director of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), effective July 1. This decision was announced during the Board of Education meeting on April 21. Dr. Linger, who previously served as the science coordinator at the Lindenhurst Union Free School District, will succeed David Storch, who is retiring at the end of the school year. With a robust background in science education, Linger has held various leadership roles, including Earth Science teacher at Stimson Middle School in the South Huntington School District. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in social science and sociology, a Master of Science in elementary education, a Post-Master’s certification in educational leadership, and a doctorate in educational policy and leadership. Dr. Linger expressed enthusiasm about joining the Northport-East Northport community, emphasizing the importance of engaging students to foster deeper learning experiences.
