The Animal Crossing franchise, which began in 2001, has seen immense popularity, particularly with its latest installment, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, released during the pandemic in 2020. This title has sold 47 million copies, making it the best-selling Nintendo Switch game. Despite a brief DLC release in 2021, fans expressed disappointment over the lack of updates until Nintendo's announcement in October 2025 regarding a new version for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Version 3.0. To keep fans engaged, Nintendo will release a new set of Animal Crossing character icons in the Points Store starting June 2026. Each icon will cost 10 Platinum Coins, while matching frames and backgrounds will be available for 5 Coins each. Platinum Coins are easily earned through gameplay and purchases. However, these icons will only be available for a limited time, as they will be replaced by Donkey Kong and Mario-themed items in July. Nintendo Switch Online members are encouraged to claim these cosmetics to showcase their love for the franchise.
