In a bid to enhance student enrollment ahead of its centenary celebration in 2027-28, the Govt Higher Primary School in Punchappady, Karnataka, is offering ₹1,000 to each child admitted this academic year. Headmistress Rashmitha Jain announced that the school, founded in August 1927, has already seen an encouraging response with 10 new admissions and expects five more soon. This increase in interest is largely attributed to the introduction of bilingual education in government schools. Currently, the school serves about 40 students from classes 1 to 7, supported by two permanent teachers, with plans to hire additional guest teachers. The school is also preparing for a memorable reopening day on June 1, featuring a special 'Kalika Uyale' (learning swing) for students, where educational materials will be distributed. Parents and the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC) are actively involved in beautifying the campus, which includes installing Kannada and English alphabets around the garden and seeking playground equipment to enhance facilities.
