Police in Haryana, India, have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Digvijay Singh Chautala, a leader of the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and 11 members of the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO) for damaging property during an event at Kurukshetra University on April 7. The FIR cites violations of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act and alleges that damage occurred to chairs and other public property during the event, which was attended by approximately 300-400 students and outsiders. Chautala, who has faced similar allegations in the past, criticized the government for what he perceives as an attempt to intimidate him and his associates. He argued that the government is neglecting critical issues affecting students, such as fee hikes and student union elections. INSO leader Jaswinder Khaira contended that the FIR was filed two weeks after the event, suggesting it was politically motivated. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been assigned to investigate the matter further.
