Nipun Aggarwal, currently serving as Air India's chief commercial and transformation officer, is among the top contenders to succeed Campbell Wilson as the airline's CEO. Tata Sons, the holding company of Air India, is reportedly in the final stages of selecting a successor following Wilson's resignation announcement earlier this month. Although Wilson's official tenure extends until September, he may leave sooner if a replacement is appointed. Aggarwal has been with Air India since its acquisition by Tata in 2021 and has significantly contributed to the airline's expansion, including negotiating aircraft deals and optimizing flight schedules for better connectivity. However, Air India is grappling with severe financial challenges, reporting losses exceeding ₹20,000 crore (approximately $2.4 billion USD) for FY26, compounded by rising fuel prices and longer flight routes due to geopolitical tensions. The airline's initial goal of breaking even within five years has been delayed, raising concerns about its financial viability in a competitive market.
