In a remarkable turn of events, Jitu Munda, a tribal man from Diananali village in Keonjhar district, Odisha, exhumed his sister Kalara's skeleton to provide proof of death for a bank withdrawal. This desperate act, which took place on April 27, 2026, attracted widespread attention when visuals of him carrying the skeleton went viral. Facing the threat of social boycott from his community, he was compelled to perform last rites again and host a community feast. The Ho tribe's customs dictate that exhuming a body requires a second ceremony, prompting Munda to sacrifice a goat and three chickens for the feast. Following his actions, donations surged, with notable contributions including ₹10 lakh from Alakh Pandey, founder of Physics Wallah, and ₹50,000 from Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh. The Keonjhar district administration quickly issued a death certificate, allowing the release of the ₹19,300 from his sister's account. The community came together to support Munda, providing him with an electricity connection and overseeing the memorial's construction. This incident has brought significant attention to Munda's family, who previously lived in relative obscurity.
