Garrick Higgo, a 27-year-old golfer from South Africa, has parted ways with caddie Austin Gaugert after a significant penalty during the PGA Championship at Aronimink. Higgo arrived late to his first-round tee time, resulting in a two-shot penalty that altered his score from three-under-par 67 to one-under-par 69. This misstep ultimately led to him missing the cut by just one shot after a disappointing six-over 76 in the second round. Reflecting on the incident, Higgo noted that he was too relaxed and miscalculated his time on the practice putting green. He expressed regret, stating, “I wouldn’t have been late if I knew I was running late.” Following this setback, Higgo's former caddie, Nick Cavendish-Pell, will return to support him as he competes in the upcoming CJ Cup Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch. Higgo has previously achieved notable success, winning twice on the PGA Tour and three times on the European circuit, and he hopes to regain his form with Cavendish-Pell's guidance.
