AIESL (Air India Engineering Services Limited), a state-owned maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) provider in India, is targeting increased international business and expanding its capabilities at its Nagpur facility. The company is pursuing approval from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to provide base maintenance for Airbus aircraft. Recently, AIESL successfully revived a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft that had been grounded for over six years, showcasing the facility's engineering expertise. The Nagpur facility has conducted more than 240 checks on various aircraft, including Boeing 777 and Airbus A320 models. Additionally, AIESL is exploring the potential for passenger-to-freighter (P2F) conversion for Boeing 777 planes. The facility is equipped with two wide-body hangars, an engine run-up bay, and a large engine test cell, although the construction of a jet engine shop is currently delayed.
