Pochilima panchayat, located in the Hinjili block of Ganjam district, Odisha, has been recognized as the best performing panchayat in the state, achieving an A grade in the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI). With a population of 5,678, Pochilima has successfully met all performance indicators during a verification conducted by a senior consultant on March 12. Notably, there are no kutcha houses in the panchayat, and it has reported nil maternal and infant mortality rates. Additionally, all children are immunized, and the panchayat has implemented a disaster management plan. Other significant achievements include providing pensions to all senior citizens under state welfare schemes and ensuring 100% ante-natal check-ups. The panchayat has also initiated innovative schemes like pisciculture, engaging 28 women members who produce about 6.5 tonnes of fish annually, earning between ₹35,000 to ₹45,000 each. Furthermore, it has facilitated ₹1.85 crore in credit mobilization through the National Rural Livelihood Mission and has provided free computer education to 70 poor students each year. Other notable panchayats in Ganjam district include Sohapur, Ripur, Bhatakumurada, Mandar, Turumu, and Gudipadar, each excelling in various developmental themes. Collector V. Keerthi Vasan praised these achievements, attributing them to public cooperation.
