A tragic accident occurred on Saturday at Goralchaud ground in Champawat district, Uttarakhand, India, where 19-year-old Somendra Singh, a second-year student at a government Industrial Training Institute, died after a javelin pierced his neck during practice. The incident took place around 8:30 AM when Singh went to retrieve a football that had rolled into the javelin throw zone. A javelin thrown by another student struck him, causing severe injuries. He was rushed to the district hospital, but doctors declared him dead due to excessive bleeding and oxygen deprivation. Champawat district magistrate Manish Kumar announced the postponement of the scheduled sports competition following the incident. The ground has been sealed for an investigation into whether safety protocols were followed during practice. Police have taken custody of Singh's body for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
