Jaipur: Following a TOI news report highlighting blocked zebra crossings at major road intersections, the city traffic police have begun removing barricades that were obstructing pedestrian access. The move is aimed at restoring safe and direct use of zebra lines while maintaining smoother traffic flow at junctions. On May 12, TOI published an article with the headline - “Barricades block access to zebra crossings in Jaipur” that stated, railings installed by Jaipur Municipal Corporation and barricades placed by traffic police to facilitate free-left turns made several zebra crossings difficult to access. Although zebra crossings and stop lines were marked to improve road safety, pedestrians often found themselves unable to reach these or cross safely because of JMC railings and traffic police barricades. Now, traffic authorities are modifying these arrangements at the intersections. “We have removed the blockade over zebra crossings, keeping a narrow space for pedestrians to move over these lines. It would have dual effects: Free left will be there, while pedestrians would be allowed to move freely. Traffic at these crossings taking left turns will be halted for a few seconds to allow pedestrian movement,” said Mukesh Choudhary, DCP Traffic (East). The corrective step is expected to improve pedestrian convenience and reinforce the intended purpose of zebra crossings in Jaipur’s busy traffic system. You Can Also Check: Gold Rate in Jaipur | Silver Rate in Jaipur | Bank Holidays in Jaipur | Public Holidays in Jaipur | Jaipur AQI | Weather in Jaipur
